Pest Control in South Enid and Near Vance AFB
Vance Air Force Base sits about four miles south of Enid. It opened as a flying school in November 1941 and was named in 1949 for Lt. Col. Leon R. Vance Jr. As of 2000 it was the area's biggest employer. Homes on the south side of town are the closest to it.
Military families move often, and moving season brings its own pest questions. Boxes that sat in storage, furniture that came from a previous duty station and a house you don't know yet are all worth a look.
Moving Into a New House
Before you unpack, walk the house. Check under sinks and behind appliances for roach droppings or mouse droppings, look in closets and the attic for spiders, and check the outside for mud tubes on the foundation. If you're renting, report anything you find to the landlord in writing.
- Open stored boxes in the garage first, not the bedroom
- Check secondhand mattresses and couches for bed bugs
- Look for mud tubes along the foundation
Summer Yards
Summer means mosquitoes after storms, wasps under the eaves and ticks along the edges of the yard. Dump standing water after every rain and keep grass trimmed at the fence line.
